FROM BLUEPRINT TO RUINS

There are many noteworthy EPs – extended plays – out there. Take Metallica's $5.98 EP , the Mad Butcher EP by Destruction, or what was supposed to be the Tiny Tears EP by Godflesh, its four tracks becoming part of the Streetcleaner CD. For the Fragment King Bandcamp page, I released and amended certain recordings as EPs. Let's look at them here, in this CAN OPENER, in terms of chronology of recording: Nullifier EP Nullifier EP by Bazooka + Fragment King Bazooka created this crazed dubstep-metal “Warhead Remix” of the bass-drone industrial dirge “Nullifier”. Bazooka also mastered Nullifier and the other tracks of the Fragment King album Angel Position , originally released on Klangstabil's Megahertz MHz label. This EP includes the intense remix, the album version, and the stripped-down original architecture of the “Minus” version, bare of all electronic ambience. Live At A2 (11 July 2004) and Live At SI (06 September 2001) are signature live recordings from the early Fragment King iteration. These sets are digitally driven yet evoke the industrial grit of distorted guitars.  The Performances Live At A2: This live performance features Powerbook and assorted effects. It was recorded at the Luitpold Lounge on occasion of the A2 architectural exhibition in Munich.  Live At SI: The SI performance took place in the backyard of a Brooklyn townhouse on the weekend before the September 11 attacks. In this manner, it is an audible time capsule of a lost era. For this performance, the entire studio was relocated – samplers and synthesizers, effects and pedals, mixers and cables, and a laptop. "Your submission comes without a prize" Fragment King performed live at Kino Aero during the Industrial Festival Prague (9 December 2005) and at Elektroanschlag in Altenburg (30 March 2007). Both performances utilized live-treated vocals, live-treated bass guitar, and digital architectures via Powerbook. These recordings document Fragment King at the precise moment he was executing the ‘Us and Them’ blueprint that GODFLESH had professed. By performing at the intersection of architecture and sound, Fragment King transitioned this aesthetic from a purely musical influence into a rigorous spatial analysis of the modern city—built to last and destined to fail. Through the collision of organic bass decay and cold digital finality, the ‘Man-Machine’ became physically manifest, bridging the gap that would also define JK FLESH's ‘Posthuman’ recordings.
