RETREAT RECALL

What began as a site-specific recording and eventually turned into source material for an album I was working on at the time – RETREAT –  revealed itself to be an appealing piece in its own right.

The opportunity to revisit the material recorded in 2019 came with a new computer and a new audio setup: I slightly edited the original, nearly 40-minute-long recording (trimming the beginning, the end and a brief intermission in the middle where I adjusted my equipment). And now there is a slab of buzzing bass drone feedback that is the purest expression of how Fragment King (one bass guitar, multiple effects, one amplifier, one room with preferably hard surfaces, and one human) sounds!

This is why I decided to make RETREAT available in a new and limited form and expand on its original 2021 tape release. This new edition of RETREAT features the following:

  • a 73-minute audio CDr (RETREAT RECALL) with on-disk print, containing four of the original tracks (in their pre-mastered version prior to the original tape release) and the edited and normalized site-specific session;
  • an Artcard with my original photography for the tape release;
  • a button with the Nexialist Tri-Head (in its form exclusively reimagined by Liis Roden);
  • a USB media that contains all original tape tracks and digital bonus versions and remixes released by Annihilvs in 2021 in FLAC and MP3 formats;
  • and a two-part video of the original Bunker recording session on the same USB media.

The new edition of RETREAT will be available soon on Fragment King's Bandcamp page.

The session was originally recorded in the Bunker in Blumenstraße in Munich, which houses the Architekturgalerie München. The tape edition and remixes were released by Annihilvs. My cordial thanks for their support go to both institutions and personnel.
